Pakistan eSIM: data the minute you land

Nothing tests your patience like landing in Islamabad after 14 hours of travel and having no internet to call your pickup. A travel eSIM fixes that: you install it at home before the flight, switch it on when the wheels touch down, and WhatsApp works before you reach passport control. No airport SIM queue, no registration paperwork, no roaming bill shock.

Airalo

Most travellers: simple app, install before you fly

The biggest eSIM store, with local Pakistan data packs

Airalo sells a dedicated Pakistan eSIM as well as regional Asia packs that include Pakistan. You buy a fixed amount of data for a fixed number of days, install the eSIM from the app at home, and switch it on when you land. Top-ups are bought in the same app.

  • Fixed-size data packs (no surprise bills)
  • Install at home, activate on landing
  • Top up in the app

Yesim

Heavy data users who want unlimited plans

App-based eSIM with unlimited options

Yesim runs everything through its app and offers both fixed packs and unlimited plans in many destinations, including Pakistan coverage. Handy if you stream, hotspot a laptop, or simply do not want to watch a data counter during a long family visit.

  • Unlimited plans available
  • One app for many countries
  • Pay-as-you-go option

Saily

Security-minded travellers

eSIM from the makers of NordVPN

Saily is built by Nord Security, the company behind NordVPN, and leans on that background: the app includes security extras alongside straightforward data packs that cover Pakistan. A clean choice if you already trust the Nord ecosystem.

  • Built by Nord Security
  • Security features in the app
  • Simple fixed packs

Drimsim

Multi-country trips and light data users

Pay only for what you use, per MB

Drimsim works differently: instead of buying a pack, you pay per megabyte at a flat rate wherever you are. For a Karachi stop, a Dubai layover and a London return on one SIM, or for travellers who mostly use WhatsApp and maps, this can come out cheaper than packs.

  • True pay-per-use pricing
  • One SIM across countries
  • Also available as a physical SIM

Travel eSIM or local SIM?

Honest answer: it depends on the length of your stay. For a two week family visit, a travel eSIM wins on convenience and avoids Pakistan’s device registration question entirely. For a three month stay, a local Jazz or Zong SIM is much cheaper per GB, and getting your phone PTA-registered (or using a locally bought phone) starts to make sense. Many regulars do both: eSIM for the first days, local SIM once settled.

Frequently asked questions

What is an eSIM and will my phone support it?

An eSIM is a SIM card built into your phone that you activate with a QR code instead of a plastic card. Most phones from roughly 2019 onwards support it, including iPhone XS and newer and most recent Samsung and Google models. Check your phone settings for an "Add eSIM" or "Add mobile plan" option before buying.

Why not just buy a local SIM at the airport in Pakistan?

A local Jazz, Zong or Telenor SIM is usually the cheapest data per GB, and for long stays it is a fine choice. The trade-offs: airport queues after a long flight, biometric registration requirements for locals and paperwork for visitors, and Pakistan blocks phones that stay on local networks beyond a grace period unless the device is PTA-registered, which can mean a tax on your phone for longer visits. A travel eSIM works the minute you land, with none of that.

Do travel eSIMs fall under the PTA registration rules?

Travel eSIMs from providers like these roam on international profiles rather than being local Pakistani SIMs, so they are generally not affected by the device registration (DIRBS) rules that apply when you put a local SIM in an unregistered phone for an extended stay. Rules can change, so for stays of several months check the current PTA position.

Which one should I pick?

For most trips: Airalo for simple fixed packs, Yesim if you want unlimited data, Saily if you value the Nord Security background, and Drimsim if you hop across several countries or barely use data. Prices move constantly, so compare the current Pakistan offer on two of them before paying.

When should I install the eSIM?

Buy and install at home on wifi before you fly, then simply enable the line when you land. Installation needs an internet connection, which is exactly what you do not have on arrival. Keep your normal SIM active for calls and SMS, and set the eSIM as your data line.
